Understanding our world and the way it changes is difficult enough without stopping the flow of information behind walls. Too much environmental data is sitting, unused and unshared.

We’ve surveyed and found that environmental scientists and policy makers spend an average 9 hrs/week finding, managing, and organizing the data they need to do their jobs. That’s wasted time because every hour spent looking for data is an hour that’s not spent analyzing it.

Think of it: One fifth of our time is being wasted, yet there’s still so much work to do. A lack of science is not our problem. Our problem is that we lack the ability to find and use the science we already have.

Imagine: A researcher gets an idea to instantly combine her data, collected moments ago, with today’s climate and stream data. Then she overlays fish population data collected by another university and instantly shares it across her intellectual network of colleagues, starting a conversation where all have access to the entire dataset immediately.

Oh, and all of this done for free, with a map-based web interface, and all inside of two minutes.

That, friends, is Hydrasi.
